Free Willy. Moana. That 80s movie with Cher as wonton mother who moved from town to town after each breakup and Winona Rider debut as exaaperated daughter. I was amazed how often fhis theme recurs! The breadth of experiences and challenge of the lists shared encouraged me. I am in the midst of a burnout experience where I am slowing down gently seek mindful clarity. International events are super upsetting, and of course life life has not stopped or slowed either. I have been reading the voice version of the bible a little and watching Lumo Studios gospel of Luke. While definitely not a version that grasps intersectionalities, it has some touching non-european depictions of characters amd conversations that I find refreshing. and A young adult childrens chapter book Naya Nuki: The Girl Who Ran, a native peoples story about a young survivor of an attack by another group who fled her captors and made a long trek back across the midwest in winter to find her family and people group.

Hey there Matthew. I need to add all of these movies. I think the 80s movie was Mermaids and yesss!!! Your description of it is perfect!

Also, I too am in the midst of burnout and thus I've turned to movies. It's just how I process and understand myself better. World news is just overwhelming plus life in generaal. Feel you there.

I have not heard of Lumo Studios but you've got me curious. So I'll look them up. I'll also look up the book too. I do love YA.

Peace my friend.

A couple really obscure choices that don't quite fit but I have dug up lately because I remember watching them as a kid and being amazed by them: Straight Up (1988) Lou Gossett Jr. Anti Drug Series Cheesy 80's (1 hr 25 min Youtube). In particular, Lou Gossett as a guide with a radiant robe who gives a little boy a glowing headband to help him with knowledge to say no to drugs. In one scene he is dangling over a pit of snakes being tempted but manages to physically use the headband to escape. It reads a lot like a bad morality play but as a shy kid I found the supernatural mentor's empowerment theme super comforting.
