Delita Martin – The Moon and the Little Bird
INVOCATION
Spirit, we welcome you to set us free – just as you have always desired to do.
PRESENTATION
This sweet little poem by Lori Hetteen reminded me that there’s evidence of hope woven into nature from the moon and back again. We only need to be still and look.
The Moon Says Hello by Lori Hetteen
Let me offer you
This bit of encouragement.
Many of the best things,
The most wonderful things,
Happen without any input from you.
Moss creeps.
Fireflies light up the fields
And the forests.
People do good
All over this wayward world.
The moon says goodbye and hello
Again and again.
Chickadees sing.
Acorns transform into giant
gnarled oaks.
Just do your best
As long and as often as you can,
But toil not, dear one.
A WORD OF HOPE
“In case you feel as though you are the one holding it all together… you’re not. And you’re not supposed to.” Lori Hetteen
How true Lori’s words are for each of us! It’s good to be reminded that hope is not a singular act of one.
LITANY
(Inspired by Lori’s magical poem)
God of encouragement
God of the best things
God of the most wonderful things
God of moss that creeps
God of fireflies that light up the fields
God of forests
God of people who do good
God of the moon
God of chickadees and acorns
And gnarled oaks
God of our best
God who never toils
God who is dear to us
God who blesses every goodbye and every hello
God who broods and breathes over this wayward world,
Thank you for holding it all together.
EXHORTATION
Before time itself was measured, the Voice was speaking.
The Voice was and is God.This celestial Word remained ever present with the Creator;
[The Creator’s] speech shaped the entire cosmos.Immersed in the practice of creating,
all things that exist were birthed in [the celestial Word].God’s breath filled all things
with a living, breathing light—A light that thrives in the depths of darkness,
blazes through murky bottoms.
It cannot and will not be quenched.John 1:1-5, The Voice
BENEDICTION
Now go and be only who and what you are supposed to be. Take nothing that is yours. God holds all that you cannot manage in hands wider than the universe. This is your hope.
Beautiful and timely. My husband was diagnosed with cancer on 2/14 and these words spoke directly to my heart. Thank you.
Every word here is balm to me today. Thank you, Marcie.
