A WORD OF HOPE
Text for Future Library by Han Kang
I have to believe in the world one hundred years from now. In the uncertain possibility that there will still be human beings who have survived… I have to hope that human history will not yet have vanished as a phantom, that this planet will not have become a huge ruin or grave of humans. It is a hope whose foundation is shaky…
If it is possible to call prayer the moment when, in spite of all the uncertainty, we have to take just one step towards the light, in this moment I feel that perhaps this project is something close to a century-long prayer.
LITANY
O God Who Begins and Begins and Begins—
How far can imagination reach?
How possible is the impossible when attempted and tried?
How certain is uncertainty?
How much humanity does a hundred-years of prayers cover?
How deep and wide should we plant our seeds of longing?
How long is hope—and how much can it hold?
EXHORTATION
“A forest in Norway is growing…”
Let us rejoice and be glad!
BENEDICTION
As we go out into our day, may we go into the deep forest of imagination and plant seeds of hope.
