BEATITUDES REIMAGINED
from Faith After Doubt by Brian McLaren
Blessed are the curious. Their curiosity honors reality.
Blessed are the uncertain and those with second thoughts. Their minds are still open.
Blessed are the wonderers. They shall find what is wonderful.
Blessed are those who question their answers. Their horizons will expand forever.
Blessed are those who often feel foolish. They are wiser than those who think themselves wise.
Blessed are those who are scolded, suspected and labeled as heretics by the gatekeepers. The prophets and mystics were treated in the same way by the gatekeepers of their day.
Blessed are those who know their unknowing. They shall have the last laugh.
Blessed are the perplexed. They have reached the frontiers of contemplation.
Blessed are they who become cynical about their cynicism and suspicious of their suspicion. They will enter the second innocence.
Blessed are the doubters. They shall see through false gods.
Blessed are the lovers. They shall see God everywhere.
That was a whole church service there. Amen.
Beautiful words and beautiful music. Thank you. Incidentally, I recently started reading Faith After Doubt when I saw it on my “saved for later” book list at the library. It’s so fantastically perfect for me right now. I had no recollection of who had recommended it to me, but now I’m guessing it was you! 😊
