What is a banned book?

A banned book is book that someone thinks should be off-limits or hands-off for others. When someone gets a book banned, they make it hard for others to read that book.

Why do people ban books?

Sometimes people ban books for good reasons. There are books written by people who have hurt a lot of people. Those books tell other people how to harm more people. Those books get banned.

But… sometimes, there are books that are banned just because someone thinks its too scary or too different. These books aren’t written by people who hurt people. They are written by people who want to help people by telling stories that show different ways that people can live together.
